Industry codes tell you the sector a company registered under. They do not tell you what the company actually does. Misano Search starts from a sentence (200 characters) and reads company websites. That is why a query like “mortgage lead generation” can return a ranked list that a NACE filter will never produce.
Why codes fail at sourcing
- NACE / industry codes are a filing choice, often stale, often the parent’s code, often the least-embarrassing bucket. Fine as a valuation comparable set. Useless as a find-me-this-business query.
- A mortgage-lead-gen shop, a comparison site, and a call-centre that sells leads can sit in three different codes and still be the same business you want to own.
- Ranking by registered NACE or by size just returns the famous names in a sector. That is the opposite of proprietary dealflow.
What Search actually does
- Pick a market: Czechia, Poland, Germany, Europe, or Global. Describe the company in the selected market’s language for better results.
- 200-character brief in. Search expands the query, runs web search through Exa, reads the sites, then checks identity against the registry where it can.
- Typical run: 5–8 minutes, about $0.50. Slow because it reads pages, not a code table.
- Ranked list. Rank is match to the description, not headcount or registered NACE.
- “Verified” means the company ID was checked (ARES in Czechia). Unidentifiable rows are dropped, not guessed. Tick results into Scout to score them.
What this is not
- Not a live search box on the marketing page. Public /search is a replica of a real run. Quota lives in the app.
- Not a replacement for valuation. Codes still matter later for multiples. Finding and pricing are different instruments.
- Upload still works for any company in any country if you already have the financials. Search is for the companies nobody sent you.
